Abstract:  The Orientale Lumen Apostolic Letter. A Synergic Encounter between East and West. "Tradition is never sheer nostalgia for things or representations of the past or regrets about lost rights or privileges, but it is a vivid remembrance of the Bride, that is always kept alive by the love that lives within. If tradition connects us with the past, the eschatological waiting that reveals the future with God. Each Church has to fight against the temptation to generalize what is accomplished within it, which implies not taking pride in itself or give in to sadness" . The Apostolic Letter of Saint John Paul II, Orientale Lumen, published on 21st of May, 1995, in memory of Saint Athanasius the Great, is dedicated to the Catholic Oriental Churches and implies a "faith experience", a prayer and meditation experience, as Woytila highlighted, in order to understand how this "outstanding text" is applied in the life of our Church. In its essence, this document presents the Pope’s "Oriental perspective", already anticipated in the spirit and life of the Eastern Church starting with the Middle Ages, but the Holy Father underlines and highlights the importance of "synergy" between the "two lungs" of the Church.
